4 The scepticism around the series quickly disappeared… «Yes, because even though all the drivers had a good relationship with each other, they fought hard on the track, showing to have numbers. The performance kept growing, and qualifying results got tighter and tighter as the season progressed». How did you manage so many other championships? «Formula 3 Regional and Formula Renault required special attention. Formula 4, now in its sixth year, is in excellent health and is now an oiled mechanism. I can’t hide that I felt great to see that the Italian championship is always the benchmark in terms of the quality of teams and drivers, with impressive operations. We stayed very busy with the new car for the Toyota Racing Series, which will start again in January. We are in the delivery phase, the first cars are travelling and will soon be arriving in New Zealand. The other twelve will depart in two weeks, one is already on-site for a total of 25 cars required by Toyota New Zealand. It was not a small effort by any means which included setting up a new engine with Toyota, the long-distance collaboration, the testing development in Italy in July with the maximum possible heat, to make sure the cars would be performing without a hitch in the summer. Everything worked very well. When you are working with an engine specialist on the other side of the world, it is not obvious that everything works the first time. Indeed, the car is more or less the same as the W Series and other championships, but there are different pipes, sidepods, and electronics. It must be said that in terms of the new electronics, our partner Magneti Marelli was able to integrate with it perfectly» The collaboration with the Toyota Racing Series seems particularly smooth. What is the key to such a great relationship? «The relationship with Toyota dates back to 2004. It’s the championship running farthest away from Europe so we created a special relationship with the promoters. They managed to craft a well-consolidated series with a great following. Many of the competitors that raced there then moved to really important championships afterwards. You race on tracks of yesteryear with people of yesteryear. Like what happened with Renault and Aci Csai, we think we have repaid the trust we were given, providing top-level products and assistance, which is even better thanks to the arrival of Autotecnica Motori».
