Max Hesse’s impressive string of results in TCR Germany’s three latest events has propelled him to the top of the standing when only the season’s finale is left, at the Sachsenring on September 27th/29th. Hesse scored four victories and a second place over the six most recent races, building a lead of 14 points over the reigning champion Harald Proczyk. Antti Buri, who topped the championship table before Hockenheim, has slipped down to third, with a gap of 21 points. RACE 1 – PROCZYK LEADS FROM LIGHTS TO FLAG Pole-sitter Proczyk made a superb start and led Race 1 from Mike Halder, Hesse and Théo Coicaud. On Lap 2, Coicaud forced Halder to run wide and so he, Hesse and Andreas Bäckman all moved up a place, while Halder dropped back to fifth. After a safety car intervention, Halder passed Bäckman for fourth, then Hesse overtook Coicaud for P2. In lap 12, Niedertscheider, Buri and Bäckman collided while running abreast and the Finn dropped to tenth while Niedertscheider’s car was stranded with broken steering. With less than four minutes remaining, the race finished behind the safety car. Proczyk, Hesse and Coicaud made it an all-Hyundai top three, with Mike Halder holding onto fourth ahead of Dominik Fugel. RACE 2 – A PODIUM FOR JESSICA BÄCKMAN At the start of Race 2, Michelle Halder led from pole, but Dominik Fugel passed her at the hairpin with Jessica HYUNDAI DRIVERS FILL BOTH PODIUMS AT HOCKENHEIM 20 GERMANY MaxHesseisthenewleader
