32 AMERICA With one event remaining, Michael Hurczyn is closing in on the TCR class title in the TC America series. Following the events at Watkins Glen and Road America, Hurczyn has a forty-point lead over his only rival, his FCP Euro teammate Nate Vincent, with fifty points available in the final weekend of the season. Similarly, in the TCR Cup for DSG cars, Bryan Putt leads the class after the two races at Road America. WATKINS GLEN – DOUBLE VICTORY FOR MICHAEL MCCANN In the championship’s sixth event, at Watkins Glen in New York state over the weekend of August 31st/September 1st, victory in both races went to the Audi RS3 LMS of Michael McCann, who’d switched from using a car with DSG transmission to a sequential gearbox. After starting from pole in Race 1, McCann was passed for the lead by Mason Filippi, but the Audi retook the lead after a safety car period and went on to take the win from the two Golf cars of Vincent and Hurczyn. The TCR Cup class was won by Canada’s Travis Hill, who was making his debut in the series, with Putt finishing second. In Race 2, McCann took his second win of the weekend after passing pole-sitter Vincent on Lap 3 and race leader Hurczyn three laps later. Despite McCann’s pace appearing to fade, and his lead shrinking to around half a second at one point, he upped his pace over the final few laps to win by over two seconds from Hurczyn, with Vincent finishing third. Hill again won the Cup class from Stephen Vajda and Putt. HurczynandPutt close inonthetitles TC AMERICA VISITEDWATKINS GLEN AND ROAD AMERICA
