Laaksonen (TOPCAR Sport with Bas Koeten Racing, CUPRA) During the night, Peter Gross crashed the Wimmer Werk Motorsport CUPRA at 4:30am, while one hour later Charles Espenlaub’s Vmax Engineering Opel Astra and Eric Kwong’s Bas Koeten Racing Audi collided and the incident resulted in the withdrawal of the Opel. The last casualty was the Bas Koeten Racing Audi that Alex Au crashed at Blanchimont with two hours and 30 minutes to go. Despite the relative small field, the first edition of the first-ever long distance race reserved for TCR cars was a success for the level of the entries, the professionalism of the organisation and the competition on the track. The TCR Spa 500 holds all the cards to become a classic in the TCR international calendar that attracts teams and drivers from all over the world, as was proved by the participation of competitors coming from North America, Oceania and the Far East. Creventic, the promoter company, has already announced that in 2020 the race will be brought forward to the first weekend in May, sharing the bill with the 12-hour GT race. This should help to increase the field, although it is no guarantee of having better weather…
