32 IMSA With thirty minutes left on the clock, Filippi was in the lead, closely chased by Lewis and Casey who managed to pass him, moving into first and second once again. In the closing stages, Lewis managed to keep Casey at bay and crossed the finishing line with a 1.3 seconds margin, while Galante snatched third from Filippi. Despite losing one position, fourth was enough for Filippi-Gottsacker to finish as runners up in the championship as they benefitted from the troubles of their competitors. The Roadshagger Racing Audi of Jonathan Morley- Gavin Ernstone was given a drive- through and dropped to third in the standings, while the LA Honda World Racing Civic of Blackstock and Tom O’Gorman, that had led the championship in the first part of the season, retired with overheating problems and so they dropped from second to fourth in the final classification. “I think this last race was a really big stamp on our championship. Like ‘Hey we’re here, we’re going for the championship, but we’re going to try to win this race too,” a delighted Lewis commented. “This was a massive team effort by all, that’s why we’re here,” said Wilkins. “We have a great synergy. Bryan built a great team for us and it’s just our job to do our component. It was down to the wire, it was a tough race today. We had to lean on it every single lap. This is a big one!” Round 10 – Friday 11 October, Road Atlanta Raceway 1. M. Wilkins/M. Lewis (Bryan Herta Autosport, Hyundai Veloster N); 2. B. Casey/M.
