5 FilesbeatsBriché inthefinal race THE TWO TITLE CONTENDERS KEPT ON FIGHTING UNTIL THE VERY END Josh Files clinched the TCR Europe title in the very last race of the season at Monza. The battle between the Target Competition driver and his dogged rival Julien Briché enlivened the second part of the season and reached its peak at Monza, where the duellists gave all they had in two thrilling races. In his attempt to recover a gap of 38 points from Files, Briché set a stunning pace from the beginning. He claimed pole position and then took a dominant victory in Saturday’s Race 1 – the fourth for him during the season – benefiting from the crucial support of his fellow Peugeot driver Aurélien Comte who perfectly played the rear guard role. But Files was able to kept his cool despite a disappointing Qualifying and completed a great recovery from ninth on the grid to third under the flag, retaining a 33- point advantage before the final race in which he was to start from the front row of the reversed grid, with Briché in P10.
