TCR World and life
6 EUROPE Despite the fact that this would give him the possibility to control the situation in the second race, Files elected to finish the season in style and performed a masterpiece race. He took the lead during the opening lap and then built a small gap that enabled him to resist the pressure from Briché during the final laps. Because the Frenchman gave all he had, passing the drivers in front of him one after another to finish a close runner up in the race and the championship. Files confirmed his status of one of the most successful drivers in TCR, adding the European crown to the two titles won in TCR Germany (2016 and 2017) and another in the 2017 TCR Middle East series. “ Julien pushed right to the bitter end, to the last corner of the last lap. The title could have been his, to be honest. We had a difficult Qualifying and we were perplexed as to where the speed had gone, so to fight through to a podium and then take the win and the title was incredible. You can’t get better than this! Target Competition have done an amazing job all season and they deserve this more than me. Bringing the championship back to them makes me really proud ,” a delighted Files said. Briché consoled himself by taking the title in TCR Benelux and sportingly paid homage to the European champion: “ We arrived at Monza hoping for a miracle. We knew it was going to be complicated but I tried until the end. We have made two or three mistakes during the season and we paid them dearly, but it’s racing. We can be proud of what we have done and Josh had a great season. Congratulations to him and his team .”
