TCR World and life

26 INTERVIEW “I actually had two phone calls, one was from Johan, my team-mate from last year who’s a good friend and I’ve kept in touch with, asking me if I was interested to race in TCR Scandinavia with someone he knows very well. I also got a call from Jonas Jarlmark from Öhlins about the championship as well, and a few conversations later it turned out they were for the same thing - and it all resulted in me talking with Fredrik Lestrup about how we can make it work. I take my hat off to Fredrik, as he’s done an amazing job to put this programme together within ten days - that’s no mean feat, and it’s a serious challenge he’s making. We’re now just waiting to start testing to get ready for the season.” On the first weekend of August, the TCR Scandinavia championship will race alongside the brand new PURE ETCR series at the Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix, which will be the first time the 2012 world champion will get to see the new ETCR racing cars up close. “ETCR is no doubt the future,” said Huff. “We’ve seen the growth of electric motorsport over the last six to seven years, and there’s no doubt it’s an interesting prospect for the future of touring cars. The cars are 500bhp, and rear-wheel drive, so they’re quite different to the current touring cars. A lot of people seem to think a front- wheel drive touring car driver can only do that, but luckily we’ve had people like Nicky Catsburg and Augusto Farfus proving everyone wrong about that. I think it’s a great prospect and a very exciting future, and personally I’d really like to drive one. Having that kind of power in a rear-wheel drive car is exactly what touring cars have been missing. I’d be really excited about the chance to jump into one - and who knows, when the new PURE ETCR series coincides with my race in Copenhagen this year, maybe that’ll be a good opportunity. It’s a street circuit, and they’re ‘right up my street’, so they say.”
