TCR World and life
26 INTERVIEW How useful is SIM racing for a driver? "It’s a way for me to keep fit and sharp for the start of the real WTCR season. It is proper training to keep the concentration level high. A mistake here is as costly in terms of lost time as in real racing. You have to stay focussed and that is proper training for real life, just as it can help you learn the circuits. The Race Room version of the Lynk & Co 03 TCR looks great and the interior looks really real, I sometimes forget that I am sitting at home and not in my race car. In terms of balance, the car feels quite good at braking and is quite similar with a bit of oversteer on the high-speed turn-in." How much of your driving style can you use in virtual racing? "I do have to adapt my driving style to SIM racing and this can be difficult. Especially to get the right feeling with much less feedback from the car. In real-life racing the car is moving, you can feel the g-forces while braking and you just can't feel that in SIM racing. Another challenge is to set the car up. You can't just translate the real setup from the real WTCR cars to the SIM racing. You have to adjust that and the professional top gamers have an advantage there." What is your ambition for the 2020 WTCR when the conditions are right for it to start? "I am really motivated to continue my commitment with Lynk & Co Cyan Racing, and I am especially pleased to race together with my uncle Yvan. He is a big part of where I am today. We had some really promising results last year and I look forward to further develop that in 2020. I want to win races this year after coming so close in 2019 and of course to fight for the world title together with the team. That is the most important goal."
