14 AMERICA Tyler Maxson is dominating TC America with embarrassing ease. At the Virginia International Raceway, where the championship resumed after a four- month break caused by the COVID-19 lockdown, the Copeland Motorsports teenager claimed all three victories over the weekend, increasing his invincibility to five races from five. This, together with the decision of the reigning champions FCP Euro not to run Michael Hurczyn’s and Nate Vincent’s Volkswagen Golf GTI cars in the VIR event (and in the following one at Sonoma), enabled Maxson to build a huge leading margin in the standings. RACE 1 – MAXSON TAKES A LIGHTS-TO-FLAG VICTORY After qualifying on pole, Maxson controlled the race from the front, although Victor González wasn’t so fortunate after starting from P2. The Puerto Rican was passed going into Turn 1 by Scott Smithson and the leading trio then spent much of the forty-minute race running together, until a puncture forced González to pit with five minutes of the race remaining, which presented the third spot on the podium to series’ newcomer Tristan Herbert in his Audi DSG. RACE 2 – MAXSON ENCORES BEHIND THE SAFETY CAR At the start, González took the lead from pole, while Maxson sprinted from P3 on the grid to overtake Smithson. Moments later the Hyundai driver took command of the race and pulled away, leaving González defending P2 from Smithson. Behind them Roy Block and Luke Rumburg had a close fight for P4.
