6 EUROPE RACE 1 – LLOYD STARTS BETTER THAN POLE SITTER FILIPPI Lloyd made the strongest start to Saturday afternoon’s Race 1. He stormed into the lead from P3 on the grid, passing pole-sitter Filippi on the run down to Turn 1, with Filippi also being squeezed into third position by Bennani going through Turn 1. The leading trio then circulated in their positions for the remainder of the race, although the gaps remained consistent and so none of the three was able to relax until the chequered flag, with Lloyd taking the victory over Bennani and Filippi in the final podium place. Behind the three, several enthralling battles raged throughout the ten-lap race, with Teddy Clairet passing Girolami early in the race and the Argentine then successfully defending fifth place from a series of attacks by Jimmy Clairet. The top ten was rounded off by Andreas Bäckman, Homola, Sami Taoufik and Mike Halder. Taoufik crossed the finish line ahead of Homola, but the Stewards imposed a two-second penalty on the young Moroccan driver and so their positions were reversed.
