24 ITALY SALVATORE TAVANO INHERITS THE TCR ITALYTITLE THANKS TO A LATEVERDICTBYTHE TRIBUNAL OF APPEAL Salvatore Tavano (above and right) was crowned champion of TCR Italy for the third consecutive year, but only after the Sporting Tribunal heard an appeal lodged by Felice Jelmini against his exclusion from a race at Misano in August. Jelmini had won that race, but his Hyundai was disqualified after the post-race scrutineering because it was not possible to download the data from the ECU; Eric Brigliadori inherited the victory and Tavano was promoted to second. The Tribunal overturned that decision, ruling that PMA Motorsport was not responsible for the malfunctioning of the data logger and so reinstated Jelmini as the race winner. This demoted Brigliadori and Tavano to second and third; as a consequence, Brigliadori (top right) lost six points and Tavano two. Because they had finished the season on equal points, Tavano moved ahead of Brigliadori in the standings by four points. Achampionbyjudicialdecision
