8 ETCR T he CUPRA e-Racer made its first appearance in an ETCR official test session at Motorland Aragón with CUPRA Racing’s experienced driver Jordi Gené at the wheel. “It’s a very challenging car. We had a lot of work, as we had so many things to be tested: chassis, tyres, new engine, new battery. A lot to do, so let’s hope we can make the most out of it!” said Gené after that first test that gave CUPRA Racing’s technical staff the opportunity to run the car for the first time after completing the integration of the ETCR kit. In the following sessions at Vallelunga, Gené was joined by the 2018 TCR Europe champion Mikel Azcona who will team up with him and Mattias Ekström in the PURE ETCR. CUPRA Racing’s engineer Xavi Serra, who is at the head of the project, explained: “We were excited to run the new CUPRA e-Racer for the first time on a real racetrack after the shakedown for the integration. At Motorland we started to calibrate all the systems and get to know how make the best out of them. It was a challenging test, because we had to get used again to the charging and cooling phases while using the ETCR-certified equipment. The result was positive, as we didn’t meet with any issues.” Maidentest onthe home ground for the CUPRA e-Racer
