15 The most disappointed drivers in the Hungarian weekend were Rob Huff and Jean-Karl Vernay. For the first time this season, Huff’s pace was up to the former World Champion’s standard, as the Briton dominated the Qualifying session, setting a new lap record for TCR. However, Huff hit a tyre stack in the first race, eradicating the front left suspension of his CUPRA. The Zengő Motorsport crew worked frantically to fix it during the short repair window between the two races (above), but time ran out and Huff was forced to start from the pit lane, leaving the pole position vacant. To add insult to injury he was given a drive-through for exiting the pit lane under the red light as he wanted to check that the car was running properly. Vernay (below left), who was leading the championship before the event, struggled for the whole weekend and couldn’t do any better than 14th in Race 1 and 13th in Race 2. As a result he dropped to third in the standings, 16 points behind Ehrlacher. For the first time since the start of the pandemic, spectators were admitted to a WTCR event and, as usual, Hungarian fans flocked to the track to cheer for the local hero Norbert Michelisz (left).
