20 ASIA & CHINA MaQingHuaextendshis lead THE SHELL TEAMWORK LYNK & CO CARS DOMINATE TWO VERYWET RACES AT SHANGHAI The TCR Asia and TCR China series resumed at the Shanghai International Circuit, where the Lynk & Co cars run by Shell Teamwork continued their domination. In TCR Asia, Ma Qing Hua and Zhang Zhi Qiang took one victory apiece: the third for Ma and the first for Zhang in this season. They are now first and second in the standings, with Ma leading his teammate by 32 points, while the best of the rest is Yang Xiao Wei in the Z.Speed Audi RS 3 LMS who has a gap of 67 points. A thunderstorm during the first race resulted in a safety car intervention. The Shell Teamwork cars used the neutralization to pit for wet tyres, while their MG XPower rivals hesitated and pitted too late. Eventually, Ma (above) took an easy win from series newcomer Liu Zi Chen in the 326 MKK Racing Audi and Auto Home Racing’s Wang Tao who saved the honour for MG and won the TCR China race. It was raining when Race 2 began, and Zhang Zhi Qiang sprinted from the pole to the lead. After a few laps the rain became torrential, Sunny Wong lost control of his Lynk & Co and crashed into the MG of Zhang Zhen Dong who was running second. After a safety car intervention, racing resumed with three laps to go. Zhang Zhi Qiang (centre right) managed to keep Rodolfo Ávila at bay, while Ma Qing Hua completed the podium. Ávila was the first of the TCR China competitors but received a 10- second penalty for overtaking Ma during the safety car period and so dropped to fourth overall while his teammate Martin Cao Hong Wei inherited victory in TCR China.
