TCR World and life
35 Coronel joined Rodrigo Baptista to win the second round at Curitiba (left), fighting through from tenth on the grid to take victory with two laps to go. The first endurance race of the series was incident-packed and marred by many front-left punctures. Guerrieri started the race from pole position in the Squadra Martino Honda Civic, with Sergio Jimenez alongside him in his Scuderia CJ Hyundai Elantra in its season debut. After the rolling start, they broke away from the pack, but Jimenez served a drive-through for cutting on the grass. Guerrieri was the first of many drivers to experience a puncture and pitted from the lead on lap 12 for a new front-left tyre, but he would ultimately retire before mid-distance with a broken driveshaft. After the pit stops for the driver changes, it was a battle between Reis who had taken over the W2 Racing Honda from Valdeno Brito and Coronel, with Beto Monteiro’s Hyundai behind in third. Reis was pressured by Coronel (below) and finally made a mistake with just two laps to go, allowing Coronel to dive past him for the lead. Reis’ lock up also meant he immediately punctured his front- left tyre and was forced to pit, promoting Monteiro to second. Round 3 – Sunday 25 July, Autódromo Internacional de Curitiba 1. R.
