38 UK LewisKent retains thechampion’scrown TCR UK’s best-ever season ended at Donington Park with three amazing races that saw Lewis Kent (above right) retain the title in a final shootout that involved five drivers. At Donington, Kent began in the worst possible way, by failing to post a Qualifying time after he had four flying laps disallowed for track limit infringements. He was relegated to P16 on the grids for both Race 1 and Race 3. In the first race he recovered to seventh, that became fifth as the winner Alex Morgan was not eligible to score points and fifth-placed Andy Wilmot was dropped by a penalty. Kent then wasted the opportunity of starting Race 2 from P7 when he went off during the opening lap and was forced to climb through the order again until he was classified fifth. The race was enlivened by thrilling battles and eventually Jac Constable took his second win – after his maiden victory at Oulton Park (above left) – ahead of Max Hart. Before the final race, four drivers were still in contention for the title, with Lewis Kent leading his brother Bradley (left) by 16 points, while Hart and Bruce Winfield were 20 and 22 points behind with 26 on offer. Only Dan Kirby had dropped out of contention after he was forced to make a pit stop that cost him a lap. Winfield won the race after surviving a multiple collision on lap 7 that eliminated Constable, Wilmot and Bradley Kent. The win meant that he finished as runner-up in the championship thanks to a great second part of the season in which he claimed his maiden victory at Anglesey (right) and scored the 25 points for the win in Donington’s first race. It was an impressive result for Winfield who was at the wheel of the only DSG car in the field. With Bradley out and Hart slowed by an oil leak, Lewis Kent focused on finishing the race and his fifth place was enough to secure the title.
