26 ITALY AT MUGELLO, ANTTI BURI SECURES THE TITLE ON THE LAST LAP OF THE FINAL RACE OF THE SEASON Round 11 – Saturday 9 October, Mugello Circuit 1. A. Buri (Target Competition, Hyundai i30 N); 2. S. Soubek (MAIR Racing Östtirol, Audi RS 3 LMS); 3. S. Tavano (Scuderia del Girasole, CUPRA Leon Competición) Round 12 – Sunday 10 October, Mugello Circuit 1. K. Ceccon (Aggressive Team Italia, Hyundai i30 N); 2. A. Buri (Target Competition, Hyundai i30 N); 3. M. Imberti (Scuderia del Girasole, CUPRA Leon Competición) It was a last lap full of drama in TCR Italy’s final race at Mugello. With only a couple of kilometres to go at the end of a thrilling season, Antti Buri in his Hyundai i30 N overtook Michele Imberti’s CUPRA Leon Competición for second place and took the chequered flag behind Kevin Ceccon’s Aggressive Team Italia-run Hyundai i30 N. With that move, the Target Competition driver overturned a situation that would have granted Ceccon the title and so became champion by one point, one year after having clinched the crown in the ADAC TCR Germany series. Buri had paved the way for his triumph by claiming his second victory of the season in the morning’s Race 1 that he had dominated, starting from pole position and leading from the lights to the flag (top left). With two of the title contenders – Nicola Baldan and Eric Brigliadori – falling out of contention after an incident at the start of the last race, Ceccon and Salvatore Tavano fought until the bitter end (below). Ceccon finished on a high, scoring his third victory of the season, while Tavano abdicated the throne with honour, driving his CUPRA to finish the race in fourth position behind Imberti and so ranking third in the final standings, 15 points behind his successor.
