10 ASIA & CHINA TCR Asia’s season finale at Macau offered the usual dose of drama typical of Touring Car races on the Guia street circuit. The family fight for the title between Shell Teamwork teammates Ma Qing Hua and Zhang Zhi Qiang saw the 2020 champion Ma winning the first race and reducing the gap in the standings from Zhang to 14 points. Ma was set to encore with another victory in Sunday’s Race 2, although all Zhang needed was to finish fourth to secure the title. Then, on the final lap, a flat front tyre slowed Ma; Zhang who followed in second place seemed satisfied to stay behind his teammate, but when the Hyundai i30 N of Lo Sze Ho materialized behind him, he passed Ma and took the chequered flag 1.8 seconds clear of Lo. Ma limped to the end, beating Yang Xiao Wei’s CUPRA on the line to salvage third place.
