16 JAPAN ‘Hirobon’ finished the 2021 TCR Japan season on a high, taking a dominant victory in Suzuka’s Race 2 (right and below) and adding the Sunday Series’ title to the Saturday Series’ he had already clinched two weeks before at Motegi. After dominating the Qualifying session, ‘Hirobon’ led at the start from Masanobu Kato and Mineki Okura. Saturday’s race winner Resshu Shioya started from P5 and overtook Okura and Kato, moving into P2. As ‘Hirobon’ built a healthy lead, Kato retook second from Shioya then increased his pace and cut down on the leader’s advantage, but ‘Hirobon’ controlled the situation and won ahead of Kato and Shioya. Kato’s second place in the race (centre right) meant he finished the series as vice-champion in both the Saturday and Sunday series.
