TCR World and life

24 SPAIN & IBÉRICO Mikel Azcona performed another of his successful one-off appearances, claiming a dominant hat-trick in TCR Spain’s season finale at Barcelona, while Mike Halder secured both the TCR Spain and TCR Ibérico titles. After setting the pole time in Qualifying, Azcona led the first race from lights to flag. He rejected Mike Halder’s attempts during the first two laps, then pulled away. During the penultimate lap, Halder used the traffic of the CET-class cars to close the gap, but Azcona reacted and won by 1.7 seconds. Far behind the leading pair, Michelle Halder took third after a close battle with Gustavo Moura jr, Sergio López and Isidro Callejas (right). Great getaways at the start meant that Mike and Michelle Halder led the second race, but after a safety car intervention to recover López’s CUPRA Leon from the gravel, Azcona passed Michelle and began to eat into Mike Halder’s lead. He eventually passed Halder at the beginning of lap 9 on his way to take his second win of the weekend, with Isidro Callejas completing the podium. Azcona had the pole for Race 3, but Mike Halder pipped him at the start. They then had a thrilling battle, running abreast for the whole first lap (bottom right), then Azcona took the lead at the beginning of lap 2 and pulled away. In the final part of the race, Mike Halder’s pace faded, and he dropped to fourth, with Moura and Michelle Halder advancing to second and third.
