4 WTCR Asparringmatchfor Guerrieri andMichelisz THE FIGHT FOR THE WTCR TITLE BECOMES RED HOT AFTER SUZUKA The battle for the 2019 WTCR title becomes hotter after every racing weekend. The competition is now so close that during the Suzuka event the points leader changed three times, or after every race, between the two main contenders. Esteban Guerrieri won Race 1 and demoted the previous leader Norbert Michelisz to second, 13 points down. The Hungarian responded with victory in Race 2 and retook the advantage by six, but the Argentine had the last word as he finished second in Race 3, behind Johan Kristoffersson, and ended the weekend with a six-point lead. Those six points, however, are peanuts, because 170 points will be on offer in the World Cup’s two final events at Macau and Sepang. According to the numbers, 15 drivers have theoretical chances of clinching the title, with Ma Qing Hua placed 15th with 133 points. However, it is reasonable to believe that the fight will be restricted to the first four in the standings, with the Lynk&Co duo of Thed Björk and Yvan Muller currently in third and fourth positions with gaps of 40 and 48 points from Guerrieri.
