Ekstrom batte Loeb
nella Race of Champions

Con un secco 2-0, Mattias Ekstrom, pilota Audi nel DTM e di tanto in tanto protagonista di prove del mondiale rally, ha battuto Sebastien Loeb, tre volte iridato rally, nella finalissima della Corsa dei Campioni svoltasi allo Stade de France di Parigi sabato 16 dicembre. Ekstrom è giunto alla sfida con Loeb dopo aver battuto nella finale riservata ai velocisti Sebastien Bourdais, protagonista di un errore, e nella semifinale Heikki Kovalainen (sconfitto per due decimi di millesimo!), vero spauracchio della manifestazione. Il pilota della Renault F.1 infatti, ha portato al successo la Finlandia nella Coppa per Nazioni battendo due volte l'americano Trevis Pastrana e rimediando da campione alle sconfitte incamerate dal suo compagno Marcus Gronholm.
Nella finalissima, Ekstrom ha quindi incontrato Loeb, bravo nell'avere ragione di Colin McRae nel confronto tra rallisti. Lo svedese ha clamorosamente battuto Loeb per 189 millesimi nella prima sfida disputata con le Citroen Xsara WRC, ovvero la vettura con cui il francese ha vinto gli ultimi titoli mondiali. Dopo di che ha rifilato ben 6"3 al francese nella seconda prova con le Renault Mégane Trophy.

Mattias Ekstrom is the new Champion between Champions: the Swedish driver won at the Stade de France the traditional Race of the Champions competition. Ekstrom beat Sebastian Loeb on his home ground in Race 1, winning in the Citroen Xsara WRC. Loeb, three times Wrc Champions with that car, lost to his rival by 0.189 seconds. The switch to the Mégane Throphy car was a no-match: the French took the flag 6,3 seconds behind his rival. Ekstrom won the race between roadcourse drivers beating Sebastien Bourdais in the semi-finals and Heikki Kovalainen in the final. The Renault F1 driver brought Finland to victory in the nations cup.
