Valencia, 1° giorno: Tarquini e Menu i più veloci

Si è svolta martedì 23 gennaio la prima giornata di prove collettive del WTCC sul tracciato di Valencia. Non ci sono stati riferimenti cronometrici ufficiali, ma le squadre hanno rilevato che i più rapidi sono stati Gabriele Tarquini con la Seat e Alain Menu su Chevrolet Lacetti accreditati di un 1'43"7. Con 1'43"9, Andy Priaulx. Tarquini ha provato diverse soluzioni di assetti mentre sulla seconda Seat ha continuato a prendere confidenza il messicano Michel Jourdain. Oltre a Priaulx con la BMW del team RBM, per la Casa tedesca è presente il team Ravaglia che ha fatto girare il solo Alex Zanardi, e il team Schnitzer con Jorg Muller e Augusto Farfus. Numerosi giri hanno compiuto con la Chevrolet sia Nicola Larini sia Menu.

First of day of testing for six WTCC teams at Valencia's Ricardo Tormo circuit. The two works León cars were driven by Gabriele Tarquini and Michel Jourdain. “Gabriele focused on testing different set-up solutions with the success ballast onboard, while Michel continued his apprenticeship for getting used to the car,” said Rodriguez, Seat manager. A third León joined the test, Roberto Colciago's car run by the SEAT Sport Italia team. At Chevrolet, Nicola Larini and Alain Menu completed a great deal of laps. At BMW Team Italy-Spain it was Alessandro Zanardi's turn to drive. The team's new driver, Félix Porteiro, will step in for Zanardi on the second day. Jörg Müller, Augusto Farfus (both BMW Team Germany) and Andy Priaulx (BMW Team UK) are also taking part in the test.
No official times were released, however sources from different teams reported that Tarquini and Menu were fastest, lapping both in 1:43.7, with Priaulx only two tenths behind.
