James Hylton al via di Daytona

James Hylton, leggenda vivente delle gare stock car, classe 1934, ha formalizzato l'iscrizione alla prossima Daytona 500. Hylton, vincitore del titolo di Rookie dell'anno nel 1966, detiene ancora il record per la miglior posizione in classifica di un debuttante: nella stessa stagione ottenne anche il secondo posto assoluto. Il settantaduenne della Virginia, vincitore di due gare Winston Cup, ha acquistato un pacchetto vettura-motore dalla Richard Childress Racing e, dopo l'apertura del campionato, diventerà con ogni probabilità Crew Chief, lasciando il volante a Damon Lusk. Il primo scoglio da affrontare saranno le qualifiche: senza un posto garantito, e con le nuove Toyota alle prese col rischio di restare ai box, tutto diventerà estremamente difficile.

Another stock car legend will be running at Daytona this February. The 72-year old James Hylton decided to enter the first race of the season with a Chevy Monte Carlo purchased from Richard Childress Racing. Hylton, 2 times Winston Cup Race Winner, won Rookie Of The Year honors in 1966, finishing second to David Pearson and obtaining the best standings position for a rookie to date. The new team will have to work hard in the effort of securing a place on the grid. With the brand new Toyotas trying to do the same, things are going to be very serious. After the Daytona 500, Hylton will start serving as a Crew Chief, leaving the wheel to Damon Lusk.
