Valencia - 4° turno
Miguel Molina e Pons i più veloci

Un super giro quando ormai il buio iniziava ad avvolgere il circuito Ricardo Tormo, ha permesso a Miguel Molina e al team Pons di conquistare la "pole" nell'ultimo turno dei due giorni di test collettivi a Valencia della World Series Renault. Spiazzati i team Comtec e Carlin, che hanno tentato di replicare al tempo del giovane Molina (1'21"954) e si sono piazzati alle sue spalle a pochissimi centesimi. Sebastian Vettel (Carlin) ha terminato al secondo posto con 1'22"015 e terzo ha concluso Alvaro Barba (Comtec) in 1'22"117. Leggermente più staccati Giedo Van der Garde e Mikhail Aleshin mentre il sorriso è apparso alla GD Racing grazie al sesto crono di Ben Hanley. Un risultato che arriva da lontano e che il team manager Cristiano Giardina ha voluto spiegare: "Hanley è stato bravissimo, il suo impegno in questa giornata di test è da elogiare. Ma il gran lavoro lo ha fatto Christian Montanari che ieri ha rivoltato la nostra monoposto trovando il giusto bilanciamento. Voglio ringraziare Montanari per la professionalità mostrata".

Il primo dei piloti italiani è stato Alessandro Ciompi che ha tirato fuori dal cilindro il settimo tempo. Il toscano della Cram aveva girato nei test di Le Castellet e Vallelunga senza però lasciare particolari ricordi. A Valencia, finalmente, Ciompi si è tolto ogni remora e ripulitosi definitivamente dalla ruggine (è stato fermo per lungo tempo quest'anno) ha trovato il giro perfetto. Ottavo Valsecchi che ha concretizzato il lavoro svolto con la Draco. Soddisfazione in casa RC Motorsport per il progresso compiuto da Chris Van der Drift, nono davanti a Charlie Kimball della Victory.
Ferdinando Monfardini con la Prema non ha utilizzato le gomme nuove in quanto nel pomeriggio si è dovuto fermare per affaticamento. Il mantovano, infatti, sta recuperando dall'intervento chirurgico al piede sinistro. A Vallelunga era tornato al volante di una monoposto (della RC) per un giorno di test, a Valencia l'impegno è raddoppiato: ieri con RC oggi con Prema. E la inevitabile stanchezza si è fatta sentire.

The second day of testing started under an ominous-looking sky and as the weather reports announced heavy rain, the teams opted to use fresh tyres from early in the morning. Yesterday, however, Alvaro Barba (Comtec) came very close to his best registered lap on used tyres. The times started to drop and after a while Miguel Molina (Pons Racing) took over in P1, commanding the session until the Russian Mikhail Aleshin (Carlin) put in an impressive lap of 1.22.302.
Aleshin, Molina, Barba, Vettel and Van der Garde did not change positions, but there was a lot of traffic on the track during the last ten minutes. James Walker moved up to P6 and Albuquerque improved to P8. Rahel Frey produced a splendid performance, finishing the morning session in P19, while Pippa Mann struggled with clutch problems. Bertrand Baguette had a successful half-day test with Tech 1.

The afternoon session started with an early red flag caused by Charlie Kimball, whose car span on turn 17. Alvaro Barba (Comtec) restarted on top, but Miguel Molina replied to set the best lap time. Sebastian Vettel (Carlin) then set a fast time, relegating Barba to P3. The other Carlin driver, Mikhail Aleshin, who dominated the morning session, was also regularly amongst the fastest drivers. Alessandro Ciompi (Cram) caused a red flag when he was in P7. Ben Hanley progressed well, finishing his test with GD Racing only 0.6 seconds off the top time. Finally, the 17 year-old Miguel Molina tore up the record book to set the new time to beat at the new track of Valencia: 1.21.954. Van der Drift and Clos met in the RC Motorsport garage for a face to face in the World Series. The New Zealand ace seemed to feel more comfortable after Borja García helped the team with the right setup.
