Asia: Karjalainen e Turvey al comando dopo Zhuhai

Si è aperto domenica 21 gennaio il campionato Asiatico della F.3. Sul circuito cinese di Zhuhai si sono disputate tre gare che hanno visto le vittorie di Henri Karjalainen (2) e di Moreno Soeprapto.
Nella prima corsa, Karjalainen, autore della pole in qualifica, ha tenuto la testa del gruppo fin dal via precedendo Oliver Turvey e Walter Grubmuller. L'austriaco non ha avvuto un avvio felice dalla prima fila e si è fatto superare da Turvey. Un testacoda ha rovinato la gara di Moreno Soeprapto mentre Grubmuller ha rimediato all'errore in partenza segnando il giro più veloce.

La seconda gara è stata una fotocopia della prima con Karjalainen che ha avuto ragione di Turvey e Grubmuller. L'austriaco nel corso del primo giro aveva perso la terza piazza a vantaggio di Dillon Battistini, ma al quinto passaggio ha recuperato la posizione. Infine la terza corsa che ha visto Battistini passare al comando. Karjalainen lo ha superato imitato da Turvey. L'inglese ha poi urtato il finlandese al 4° giro costringendolo al ritiro. Turvey è allora stato penalizzato di 30" dai commissari sportivi e retrocesso al terzo posto. La vittoria è così stata assegnata a Moreno Soeprapto. Battistini ha commesso un errore nel finale perdendo la possibilità di salire sul podio.

RACE 1
Henri Karjalainen took a lights to flag win with Oliver Turvey second and Walter Grubmuller third. The Promotions class was won by James Littlejohn. Karjalainen made a good start and was never headed whilst fellow front row starter, Walter Grubmuller, made a poor getaway and dropped to third behind a fast starting Oliver Turvey. Moreno Soeprapto spun at turn four and spent the rest of the race playing catch up. Karjalainen controlled the pace at the front of the field, the gap back to Turvey remaining around the one second mark for the entire race. Walter Grubmuller was on a real charge after dropping back over the first few laps and set the race’s fastest lap on the final tour. Next up was Dillon Battistini.

RACE 2
Henri Karjalainen took his second win of the weekend with another lights to flag win from Oliver Turvey and Walter Grubmuller. James Littlejohn won the Promotions Class. Dillon Battistini overtook Walter Grubmuller for third place at turn 7 on the first lap and it took Grubmuller five laps to retake the position. This was the only action in a race where everyone held their position apart from James Littlejohn who pitted with electrical problems.

RACE 3
Dillon Battistini led initially before Henri Karjalainen took over with Oliver Turvey following him through. Turvey and Karjalainen clashed forcing the latter out of the race whilst the former went on to take the chequered flag first from Soeprapto and Forsman. The stewards felt Turvey had been too aggressive and he was penalized 30 seconds dropping him to third. Battistini led for three laps before Karjalainen found a way past. Turvey moved into second at the next corner when Battistini outbraked himself and went autocrossing. Once Karjainen was forced out by Turvey the race looked set to finish with Battistini second from Moreno and Forsman. However Battistini went off course again and ended the race in fourth place with Paul Ip in fifth.
