McLaughlin veloce e costante, bene Jarrett

La prima settimana di test a Daytona si è conclusa con la conquista del miglior tempo da parte di Ricky Rudd, andato nel quarto giorno a precedere l'analoga Fusion di Jamie McMurray. Mike McLaughlin, tester e preparatore Gibbs, aveva portato davanti a tutti la vettura di Tony Stewart nella sessione individuale della terza giornata. Jeff Green aveva comandato invece la classifica nel pomeriggio, riservato ai test collettivi ed al perfezionamento del comportamento in scia delle vetture. In quest'ultima sessione era stato il sorprendente Dale Jarrett a conquistare il secondo tempo, a bordo della (finora) più convincente Toyota del lotto. Scott Riggs, per il team Evernham, ha portato una boccata di aria fresca in casa Dodge, riuscendo nelle ultime due sessioni ad entrare nei primi cinque. Da segnalare il debutto di Kerry Earnhardt nelle sue nuove vesti di collaudatore e “collante” tra i vari programmi del gruppo DEI. Il primo figlio di Dale scenderà anche in pista, in selezionati eventi, con la squadra di proprietà della matrigna Teresa. Un altro sostituto, PJ Jones, ha preso il posto di Robby Gordon, impegnato nella Dakar 2007.

Week one of Daytona Test Days came to an end yesterday with Ricky Rudd notching the top spot in front of Jamie McMurray. Stewart's filler Mike McLaughlin took the lead yesterday in day 3 non-drafting session. Jeff Green topped afternoon's one for Haas Racing keeping behind the Toyota Camry of an impressing Dale Jarrett. Scott Riggs gave some fresh air to Dodge, entering the top five in last two sessions. Red Bull Racing's Toyota of Brian Vickers struggled again to find speed, as team is expected to make some extra job in order to earn a spot on the grid. Is to note that Kerry Earnhardt debuted in his new role filling the seat of number 8 car. Dale's elder son will join stepmother Teresa's owned team as a test driver and relations manager between the various serie's programs. He'll probably race some Busch and Cup races for DEI too during this season. Another substitute, PJ Jones, took Robby Gordon's place as the driver-owner is still competing in 2007 Dakar.
