Test a Daytona: ok Montoya, problemi per RedBull

Miglior tempo per Juan Pablo Montoya nella sessione mattutina del sesto giorno di Preseason Thunder, a Daytona. Il colombiano ha preceduto nell'ordine il compagno di squadra David Stremme e David Gilliland, che aveva conquistato la vetta nella giornata precedente. Soddisfazione anche in casa Toyota con buone performance sia per Mayfield che per Reutimann. Se gli uomini del Michael Waltrip Racing sembrano in buona forma per il debutto delle Camry, qualche difficoltà in più si è vista per il team Red Bull, in crisi nel trovare velocità sui banking di Daytona. Nel tentativo di migliorare le cose, Brian Vickers sostituirà AJ Allmendinger nel resto della settimana in virtù della maggiore esperienza, mentre l'ex pilota ChampCar si dedicherà ai test Truck. Nella sessione pomeridiana del sesto giorno, dedicata come di consueto alle prove in scia, Ryan Newman ha preceduto David Ragan e Kurt Busch, poi vittima della rottura del motore.

Dodge finally managed to see a Charger at the top of the chart, as Juan Pablo Montoya and Ryan Newman led the two sessions of day 6. Montoya, who ended up 15th in the PM drafting session, was followed by team-mate David Stremme and by David Gilliland; the Yates driver took first spot in day 5, controlling Mayfield's Toyota. If Michael Waltrip Racing's cars semeed to show consistent improvements, Red Bull Racing continued tu struggle in finding speed. Brian Vickers, who has more experience than his team-mate, is expected to replace Allmendinger in the final days of Preseason Thunder. In the drafting session Newman closed in front of David Ragan and Kurt Busch, who later took his car back in the garage with a blown engine. Jeff Gordon and Matt Kenseth continued to have strong runs.
