Atlanta, Busch: Burton, seconda vittoria, Montoya 8°
Jeff Burton followed Truck Series colleague Mike Skinner in Atlanta by winning his second consecutive Busch Series race, holding off team-mate and 2006 series champion Kevin Harvick. Pole sitter Kyle Busch had once again the best car in the field, but eventually lost the leadership due to a late pit row problem: a steward saw a missing lug nut on his car, forcing the Hendrick Motorsports driver to make his way back to the pits. Tony Stewart had troubles too, when he went into pitroad too soon: however, Kyle Busch managed to put together a stunning run, making his way back to 3rd, while Stewart had to content with 10th place. Carl Edwards and Casey Mears rounded out the top 5, in front of Clint Bowyer, Kasey Kahne and Juan Pablo Montoya, who had his best Nascar finish on an oval. Sam Hornish finished in 15th, after making his best Nascar start, and being caught in contact with Todd Kluever. Jason Leffler and Reed Sorenson touched on lap 64; Steven Wallace and Jon Wood crashed heavily causing the last caution, while Michael Waltrip had a terrible time crashing his car twice at the same turn.
