Richmond, gara: poker di Keselowski

È Brad Keselowski l'"alpha driver" della NASCAR Sprint Cup Series al termine della regular season 2014. Sullo short-track di Richmond, il pilota del team Penske ha centrato la sua quarta affermazione stagionale, e si presenterà a Chicago come testa di serie numero 1 per la Chase For The Cup. In Virginia Keselowski ha dominato in lungo e in largo conducendo dalla pole addirittura 383 dei 400 giri in programma. L'unico suo rivale, nelle prime fasi, è stato Kevin Harvick, ma la velocità degli uomini del capitano ai box ed il progressivo peggioramento dell'handling sulla vettura del team Stewart-Haas.

Nonostante il terzo posto, Clint Bowyer ha "mancato" l'accesso ai playoff pur disputando un'ottima prova. Decisivo il trentottesimo posto di Atlanta: i due favoriti della vigilia per i "ripescaggi", Ryan Newman e Greg Biffle, hanno fatto quel che dovevano, conquistando punti preziosi. Matt Kenseth, che pur senza vittorie aveva già matematicamente conquistato l'accesso, ha potuto "assorbire" un errore che l'ha mandato a muro al 120° giro.

In top-5 anche Jamie McMurray e Kevin Harvick davanti a Joey Logano, Kurt Busch e Jimmie Johnson. Il californiano ha spaventato tutti accasciandosi una volta sceso dalla sua Chevy. Il malore, causato dai crampi e dalla disidratazione, non ha avuto ulteriori conseguenze.
